Border Walk

The Center for City Design and the Global Studies Latin America Program invite you to join Border Walk, a two-part event on the architecture of border-making.

From a modest fence built in the early 1900s to a sophisticated surveillance, tracking, and barricade system today, the US-Mexico border is both a work of architecture and an exercise of planned obsolescence. It is a continually updated construction zone, a seemingly impenetrable infrastructure that nevertheless allows thousands of undocumented and stateless people to move through towards the cities of Southern California.

Join Marcos Sánchez, Ginger Nolan, and Faiza Moatasim on a walk along the US-Mexico border on Friday, October 28, 2022. Beginning at San Diego’s Tijuana Estuary Visitor Center (overlooking a protected ecological zone), participants will walk along ranger access and border patrol roads to the beach where the border wall disappears into the ocean.
